100 Osho Quotes That will Change Your Life Perspective

Who was Osho (Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh)?

Before we read Osho Quotes, lets understand who actually Osho aka Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh was.

Osho (1931-1990) was a spiritual teacher and philosopher from India. He gained a large following in the 1970s and 1980s, with many people drawn to his teachings on Zen Buddhism, meditation, and self-awareness. Osho’s unorthodox views and controversial lifestyle made him a controversial figure, and he was eventually arrested and charged with various crimes, including tax evasion and possession of illegal drugs. He died while in prison in 1990.

Despite his sometimes scandalous public persona, Osho’s teachings continue to be popular today, with many people finding his insights into human psychology helpful and illuminating. Osho is often quoted as saying, “Life is an adventure; take the opportunity.” This quote sums up nicely his philosophy that life’s journey is more important than the end goal.

Osho was born Chandra Mohan Jain on December 11th 1931, in Kuchwada, Madhya Pradesh. His family were Brahmins living near the town of Jabalpur. He started writing his poetry at school and soon had several publications. After finishing high school, Osho studied economics at Hitkarini College in Jabalpur for two years before moving to Mumbai to continue his studies at Sophia College. He went on to work as an accountant with the Indian railways. Still, after a few years, he became disillusioned with his career prospects and decided to study philosophy instead, completing his Master’s degree from Sagar University by 1953.

While studying, Osho became involved with the International Meditation Society in Mumbai, where he became a lecturer. Here he began experimentation with alternative therapies and meditation techniques, experimenting with sex as a means of opening up the chakras for spiritual growth. His activities caused controversy within the Society. Osho responded by resigning from his post and setting up his meditation center known at various stages as Samarpan, Pune Ashram, and “The Wild Geese”.

Osho developed a reputation for speaking out against all authority figures, including religious leaders and politicians. He became popularly known as ‘the rich man’s guru’ due to his lavish lifestyle and luxurious properties around Poona (Pune), India. In 1974 he moved to Kailash Ashram, where he began holding ‘Zorba the Buddha’ parties for his Western disciples.

Osho developed a wide range of innovative meditations and therapies to create a perfect blend of Eastern wisdom and Western business acumen. He also wrote The Book of Wisdom in 1977, published in several different languages. His lectures were recorded on tape and are still popular today among meditation practitioners worldwide. Osho’s autobiography I Am the Gate has become one of his most popular books, with many people discovering his teachings through this text.

In 1984 he moved to the United States, where he continued teaching at a ranch in Oregon. Despite gaining a large following, his life was relatively short-lived after being arrested for immigration fraud in 1986 and placed under house arrest due to concerns about illegal arms trading from his home. During this time, Osho became bedridden due to back problems, and it is thought that he died as a result of heart failure or complications with diabetes on January 19th 1990.

Osho’s has continued into the 21st century as a guru and author. His teachings have continued to be published, and his ‘Osho Meditation Revolution’ line of meditation products is popular across the globe. Some have also recognized him as one of the world’s greatest free thinkers and philosophers. Time Magazine listed him as number 8 in their list of 100 most important innovators of the 20th century.
